This is thy office;\u00a0<br>Bear thee well in it and leave us alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Margaret.&nbsp;<\/strong>I&#8217;ll make her come, I warrant you, presently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[Exit]\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>Now, Ursula, when Beatrice doth come,\u00a0<br>As we do trace this alley up and down,\u00a0<br>Our talk must only be of Benedick.<br>When I do name him, let it be thy part\u00a0<br>To praise him more than ever man did merit:\u00a0<br>My talk to thee must be how Benedick\u00a0<br>Is sick in love with Beatrice. Of this matter\u00a0<br>Is little Cupid&#8217;s crafty arrow made,<br>That only wounds by hearsay.\u00a0<br><em>[Enter BEATRICE, behind]<\/em>\u00a0<br>Now begin;\u00a0<br>For look where Beatrice, like a lapwing, runs\u00a0<br>Close by the ground, to hear our conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.\u00a0<\/strong>The pleasant&#8217;st angling is to see the fish\u00a0<br>Cut with her golden oars the silver stream,\u00a0<br>And greedily devour the treacherous bait:\u00a0<br>So angle we for Beatrice; who even now\u00a0<br>Is couched in the woodbine coverture.<br>Fear you not my part of the dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>Then go we near her, that her ear lose nothing\u00a0<br>Of the false sweet bait that we lay for it.\u00a0<br><em>[Approaching the bower]<\/em>\u00a0<br>No, truly, Ursula, she is too disdainful;<br>I know her spirits are as coy and wild\u00a0<br>As haggerds of the rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>But are you sure&nbsp;<br>That Benedick loves Beatrice so entirely?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>So says the prince and my new-trothed lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>And did they bid you tell her of it, madam?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>They did entreat me to acquaint her of it;\u00a0<br>But I persuaded them, if they loved Benedick,\u00a0<br>To wish him wrestle with affection,\u00a0<br>And never to let Beatrice know of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>Why did you so? Doth not the gentleman&nbsp;<br>Deserve as full as fortunate a bed&nbsp;<br>As ever Beatrice shall couch upon?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>O god of love! I know he doth deserve\u00a0<br>As much as may be yielded to a man:<br>But Nature never framed a woman&#8217;s heart\u00a0<br>Of prouder stuff than that of Beatrice;\u00a0<br>Disdain and scorn ride sparkling in her eyes,\u00a0<br>Misprising what they look on, and her wit\u00a0<br>Values itself so highly that to her<br>All matter else seems weak: she cannot love,\u00a0<br>Nor take no shape nor project of affection,\u00a0<br>She is so self-endeared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.\u00a0<\/strong>Sure, I think so;\u00a0<br>And therefore certainly it were not good<br>She knew his love, lest she make sport at it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>Why, you speak truth. I never yet saw man,\u00a0<br>How wise, how noble, young, how rarely featured,\u00a0<br>But she would spell him backward: if fair-faced,\u00a0<br>She would swear the gentleman should be her sister;<br>If black, why, Nature, drawing of an antique,\u00a0<br>Made a foul blot; if tall, a lance ill-headed;\u00a0<br>If low, an agate very vilely cut;\u00a0<br>If speaking, why, a vane blown with all winds;\u00a0<br>If silent, why, a block moved with none.<br>So turns she every man the wrong side out\u00a0<br>And never gives to truth and virtue that\u00a0<br>Which simpleness and merit purchaseth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>Sure, sure, such carping is not commendable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>No, not to be so odd and from all fashions<br>As Beatrice is, cannot be commendable:\u00a0<br>But who dare tell her so? If I should speak,\u00a0<br>She would mock me into air; O, she would laugh me\u00a0<br>Out of myself, press me to death with wit.\u00a0<br>Therefore let Benedick, like cover&#8217;d fire,<br>Consume away in sighs, waste inwardly:\u00a0<br>It were a better death than die with mocks,\u00a0<br>Which is as bad as die with tickling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>Yet tell her of it: hear what she will say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>No; rather I will go to Benedick<br>And counsel him to fight against his passion.\u00a0<br>And, truly, I&#8217;ll devise some honest slanders\u00a0<br>To stain my cousin with: one doth not know\u00a0<br>How much an ill word may empoison liking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.\u00a0<\/strong>O, do not do your cousin such a wrong.<br>She cannot be so much without true judgment\u2014\u00a0<br>Having so swift and excellent a wit\u00a0<br>As she is prized to have\u2014as to refuse\u00a0<br>So rare a gentleman as Signior Benedick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>He is the only man of Italy.<br>Always excepted my dear Claudio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.\u00a0<\/strong>I pray you, be not angry with me, madam,\u00a0<br>Speaking my fancy: Signior Benedick,\u00a0<br>For shape, for bearing, argument and valour,\u00a0<br>Goes foremost in report through Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.&nbsp;<\/strong>Indeed, he hath an excellent good name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>His excellence did earn it, ere he had it.&nbsp;<br>When are you married, madam?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.\u00a0<\/strong>Why, every day, to-morrow. Come, go in:\u00a0<br>I&#8217;ll show thee some attires, and have thy counsel<br>Which is the best to furnish me to-morrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ursula.&nbsp;<\/strong>She&#8217;s limed, I warrant you: we have caught her, madam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hero.&nbsp;<\/strong>If it proves so, then loving goes by haps:&nbsp;<br>Some Cupid kills with arrows, some with traps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[Exeunt HERO and URSULA]\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Beatrice.\u00a0<\/strong><em>[Coming forward]<\/em>\u00a0<br>What fire is in mine ears?
