daughter of Leonato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio. <\/strong>Yea, my lord; but I can cross it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John.\u00a0<\/strong>Any bar, any cross, any impediment will be\u00a0
medicinable to me: I am sick in displeasure to him,
and whatsoever comes athwart his affection ranges\u00a0
evenly with mine. How canst thou cross this marriage?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio. <\/strong>Not honestly, my lord; but so covertly that no 
dishonesty shall appear in me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John.\u00a0<\/strong>Show me briefly how.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio. <\/strong>I think I told your lordship a year since, how much 
I am in the favour of Margaret, the waiting 
gentlewoman to Hero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John. <\/strong>I remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio.\u00a0<\/strong>I can, at any unseasonable instant of the night,
appoint her to look out at her lady’s chamber window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John. <\/strong>What life is in that, to be the death of this marriage?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio.\u00a0<\/strong>The poison of that lies in you to temper. Go you to\u00a0
the prince your brother; spare not to tell him that\u00a0
he hath wronged his honour in marrying the renowned
Claudio\u2014whose estimation do you mightily hold\u00a0
up\u2014to a contaminated stale, such a one as Hero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John. <\/strong>What proof shall I make of that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio.\u00a0<\/strong>Proof enough to misuse the prince, to vex Claudio,\u00a0
to undo Hero and kill Leonato. Look you for any
other issue?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John. <\/strong>Only to despite them, I will endeavour any thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio.\u00a0<\/strong>Go, then; find me a meet hour to draw Don Pedro and\u00a0
the Count Claudio alone: tell them that you know\u00a0
that Hero loves me; intend a kind of zeal both to the
prince and Claudio, as,\u2014in love of your brother’s\u00a0
honour, who hath made this match, and his friend’s\u00a0
reputation, who is thus like to be cozened with the\u00a0
semblance of a maid,\u2014that you have discovered\u00a0
thus. They will scarcely believe this without trial:
offer them instances; which shall bear no less\u00a0
likelihood than to see me at her chamber-window,\u00a0
hear me call Margaret Hero, hear Margaret term me\u00a0
Claudio; and bring them to see this the very night\u00a0
before the intended wedding,\u2014for in the meantime I
will so fashion the matter that Hero shall be\u00a0
absent,\u2014and there shall appear such seeming truth\u00a0
of Hero’s disloyalty that jealousy shall be called\u00a0
assurance and all the preparation overthrown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John.\u00a0<\/strong>Grow this to what adverse issue it can, I will put
it in practise. Be cunning in the working this, and\u00a0
thy fee is a thousand ducats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borachio. <\/strong>Be you constant in the accusation, and my cunning 
shall not shame me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don John.\u00a0<\/strong>I will presently go learn their day of marriage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
